We Gather to Worship

Welcome and Announcements

Prelude: Behold the bread of angels (Charles Callahan)

Call to Worship Shared by Edwards United Church of Christ, Saxonville, Massachusetts

Come from the East! Come from the West! Come from the North! Come from the South!
We come from places of joy and places of sorrow, from places of struggle and places of peace.
Come because you are hungry!
We come to be fed at the table of life.
Come because you are lonely!
We come to share a meal with our brothers and sisters.
Come, join together to celebrate our diversity and to seek understanding in this place of blessing.
May we be One in the Spirit. Amen

Hymn (Insert): Come Share the Lord

Time for the Young and Young at Heart

Lesson from Luke 24:13-27 (NT 90)

Unison Prayer of Confession       Shared by Rev. Thom M. Shuman, PC(USA)

We confess, Welcoming God, how easy it is to think that our way of being Your church is the one, true way. And so, we believe we have no reason to hear Your Name spoken in another language. We are sure we don’t need to learn songs that have tunes which sound dissonant to us. We believe that our baptism, our communion, our beliefs are the ones closest to Your heart, and so we close our hearts, eyes, and hands to those around us. Forgive us, and have mercy. Remind us that while there may be many types of bread, there is that one Love which has been broken for us. Remind us that while there might be wine or juice offered, there is one Life which has been poured out for us. Remind us there is one Table, offered to us by Your grace, through Jesus Christ, our Brother, our Saviour.

Assurance of Pardon      Shared by The Church of Scotland, Edinburgh

It is not true that this world and its inhabitants are doomed to die and be lost.
This is the truth from God’s Word: For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that everyone who believes in Him shall not die but have everlasting Life.
It is not true that we must accept inhumanity, hunger, poverty, debt, addiction, mental illness, death and destruction and that we are powerless to do anything.
This is the truth of God’s Word: My grace is all you need. My power works best in your weakness. Go in the strength you have, for I am with you.
